GENEROSITY CONTINUES TO POUR IN

Several days after our event is over, we still have donations trickling in. Most are people who were unaware of the fundraising event happening. Or were unable to attend. We are happy to receive any donation amount at anytime from anyone. You can mail a check into our office or pay directly online using PayPal. It's very easy and takes just a few minutes. Go to our "support us" page to see how.

So far we have raised over $50,000 dollars. Our costs to host the event were less than expected, thanks entirely to Don Murphy who has always been a huge supporter of our effort since we started the endowment back in 2007. Don Murphy has played a significant role in many community fundraising drives here in Honolulu. Don and his staff put in a lot of extra time and effort to help other organizations raise funds for great causes that benefit our community. He deserves far more recognition than he gets. He has committed himself towards these positive efforts that improve the city of Honolulu and benefit the residents who work and live here everyday. Don and Marion Murphy are great "neighbors" to have on our waterfront.

Next time you are thinking about drinks and a night out, stop by Murphy's on the corner of Nuuanu and Merchant streets. They serve up a great menu of food (both lunch and dinner), have a great selection of beers, and an outstanding friendly staff. The bar is separate from the restaurant and there is always a 'game' on their many TVs if you're interested.

A fantastic success

Late night, after a very long day. Many hours of hard work setting up and preparing for an event, you're never sure how it will really go. But our Hawaii waterfront ohana never ceases to amaze me. Our smallest venue yet, our smallest crowd in years, the least amount of tables sold, due to limitations of space.

But it was our highest grossing year....ever.

Is that awesome or what?

Details will follow later. And pictures, too. But for now my eyes are tired and my next job is early tomorrow AM. Mahalo to all our supporters everywhere. Kawika would be proud of "our" effort. To all who attended and even those who did not, I want to say to you a genuine and heartfelt, THANK -YOU! It was fun, exciting, enjoyable, and so great to see so many waterfront faces together in one place having fun enjoying each others company. And all for great cause, too. How fantastic is that?

"JUST A FEW MORE DAYS..."

Our event is only four days away. We're attending to all the last details to create a great event that we hope everyone will truly enjoy. Just a short reminder; we will be having a live auction, hosted by Mr. Eric Schiff, Honolulu's premier auctioneer extraordinaire! We hope our guests will take advantage of some of the items we are offering in our silent auction, too! We have gift certificates for restaurants and some jewelry. We have a Waikiki Hotel stay and another condo package in Waikoloa on the Big Isle.

Our live auction includes a ship model of Matson's M/V MANUKAI, a limited edition print of FOSS tug assisting a Matson ship, a mounted and framed panoramic photo of the PASHA ship JEAN ANNE departing Honolulu Harbor at sunrise (Courtesy of Cameron Brooks), a rare picture of Dave Lyman adorned with flower leis on the day HOKULE'A departed Honolulu, and our unique 2015 event poster.

And last but not least, an opportunity to bid on some of the most unique "mini adventures" that cannot be found anywhere else: A personalized guided tour of Honolulu Harbor onboard the pilot boat HONOLULU with Capt. Ed Enos, a ride aboard a FOSS tug during a ship assist job, a tour of a MATSON containership followed by lunch onboard, a private tour of the MARJORIE C - the brand new ship just placed in service between Hawaii an the west coast.

Bring your checkbooks! Be part of the excitement and fun to bid on some of these items, if not for yourself, but as a great "gift" idea for your family and friends.

" SORRY, BUT WE'RE SOLD OUT!"

Two weeks before our 2015 fundraising event kicks off and we have no more room. Sorry folks. In years past we simply added tables and chairs. Our venue at Aloha Tower allowed us to accommodate all our guests, even those that called to get a seat at the last minute. But our limited space on Merchant Street in front of Murphy's prevents an unlimited number of people being there.

BUT YOU CAN STILL SUPPORT OUR EFFORT AND DONATE MONEY! Even if you are not able to attend. Please send checks or go to PayPal to make a contribution to help young local men and women get the financial assistance they need to attend the California Maritime Academy. We only have a fundraising event once every two years. But the 'kokua' is needed everyday, year round. You can make a donation of ANY amount at ANY time. We always appreciate your support and consideration. Mahalo!

Training Ship GOLDEN BEAR starts 2015 cruise

The TSGB departed Vallejo, CA this morning. Officially starting their 2015 training cruise. First stop Long Beach, CA for fuel 'only' with no other activities planned, before heading (quickly) south to the Panama Canal. Follow the voyage on the link above. Nothing posted from the ship yet (today). We probably need to give them a few days to 'put stuff up' on the web. But should be interesting to see comments, pics, and vids thru the whole summer.

ALL FUNDS RAISED GO TO DAVE LYMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Welcome to the new website!

We're up and running with our new website. Hope you enjoy more information presented here and some great pics, too. This will be the new place to read about updates regarding our fundraising event, happenings with scholarship recipients, and other activities that are noteworthy at CMA, especially if they are of interest for Hawaii students, ohana, and alumni. So please stay tuned and come back often.

A huge mahalo for all the considerable time, energy, and her creative effort, goes out to Susan Yamamoto. Susan did the bulk of all the work in putting our new site together. And we want to ensure she rightfully gets the recognition she deserves. Susan has her own blog and for those of you who enjoy pictures and musings about all the activities centered around Honolulu Harbor, you should check out her effort at https://weeboopiper.wordpress.com  "Notes From the wooden and Iron World" She spends a lot of time at the harbor several days a week, with her camera in tow. So you'll enjoy her work filled with excellent photography.

Aloha!

The event is off to a great start with our usual supporters already signed up for a few tables. As of today we have:

We look forward to more attending as the event draws near. Please note, this year, seating space is limited. So we encourage everyone to contact Leilani Perchan at Matson ASAP to make a reservation for your seat and/or table.

Mahalo to everyone for your continued kokua and support!!
